@greg I don't charge by word, personally. I charge by Futurama reference. The base rate is $500 per page, flat fee, but for each reference to Futurama, a Futurama character or a quote from Futurama, I deduct $10 from the final bill.

Usually, projects wind up rounding out to about $20 after I'm done with them.

So: by charging by the word, do copywriters keep alive the idea that word count is important?

I know what you mean trying to explain what you do. I have to say, though, my experience here in the U.S. is quite favorable. When I tell someone I'm a writer, they seem very impressed and interested in what I do. I love the Mad Men analogy, though, and will definitely look deeper into that one!

First: about down comforters, or down pillows for that matter. I hate when they are overstuffed. They get HARD. And you have to beat the heck out of them to make them usable.

Second: My college essays had to be 25,000 words! Your professors were crazy.

Love your comment, Melanie! It looks like you've covered most of those bad habits!

My bad Twitter list seems to resemble Pinocchio's nose -- the more I observe, the longer my list gets!

New observation: "enter useless fact here + look at my link now!" Not a fan of this tactic either! :-)

Hi Melanie! Thank you for your kind words!

I'm guessing that Mickey is too busy to spend much time on Twitter, must be Minnie's fault.

I look forward to checking out your blog as well!

Fair Warning Alert!

Once I get started sharing my two cents worth about Twittering, Tweeting, or whatever bird term you want to use ...

The value of my comment could add up to hundreds of dollars! Please don't reply with "The check is in the mail". I've heard it before. :)

At the top of my hit parade for the worst kinds of Tweets:

1) I really don't care what you ate for breakfast, lunch, or dinner (But if you want to Tweet a secret family recipe -- feel free!).

2) I'm sorry your grandmother is in the hospital and her bed sores are worsening. I'm a health care professional, but that's a little too graphic for me.

3) Announcements about worldwide disasters, plagues, and catastrophic events are not very uplifting. I don't even watch CNN which, of course, stands for "Constant Negative News".

4) "Buy my stuff! Buy my stuff!" is the fastest way to turn me off and get you UN-followed.

5) I'm all for inspirational and motivational quotes. But posting 25 of them a day is NOT thoughtful ... it's annoying!

Have I left anything out, Harriette?

Thanks for a Twitterific post!

Right off the cuff, Harriette!

I just discovered you today and I like you already. Then again, I'm really easy to please. :)

I'm definitely amenable to resurrecting a few obsolete English words. I've had a love affair with words since the fist grade!

So I'm planning on using "brabble" and then heading out for a "Brannigan". :)

I'm feeling slighted at the moment ...

Mickey Mouse has not sent me a Facebook friend request.

Write On!

I just can't think of a reason why I'd want to sleep less. I suppose it can be done, but why mess with Mother Nature?

I think I should move to Peru. :)
